Miller tops day 3 of 2014 Moto3 Valencia test
Held from February 11 - 13, the Valenica test saw most of the confirmed Moto3 teams for 2014 take part, including Miller (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and fellow Aussie, Arthur Sissis (Mahindra Racing).
While Miller scored the fastest lap time on day 3, quickest across all three days of the test was Italy's Niccolo Antonelli (Junior team GO&FUN Moto3), whose best lap of 1:39.454 was recorded on the second day. Miller's best also came on day 2 - a 1:39.464 - a mere eight one thousandths adrift. Antonelli's final day charge ended when he highsided early in the session. Taken to the circuit medical centre for evaluation, the young Italian returned to the track later to post the fourth-fastest time of day 3.
Antonelli was one of several riders to crash on the final day. Also tumbling were Scott Deroue (RW Racing GP) and Danny Kent (Red Bull Husqvarna Ajo), while Antonelli's team-mate Enea Bastianini lost control at the quick, left-handed Turn 13 towards the end of the lap. The Italian complained of a headache was but was able to walk away from the scene unaided.
On the timesheets for day 3, Miller was the only rider to break under the 100-second barrier courtesy of his leading 1:39.773 effort. Second on Day 3 was Sky Racing Team by VR46's Romano Fenati from Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3's Juanfran Guevara, with the top five rounded out by the aforementioned Antonelli and Team Calvo's Isaac Viñales.
Sixth was Miguel Oliveira for Mahindra Racing, while the top ten was completed by Francesco Bagnaia (Sky Racing Team by VR46), Philipp Oettl (Interwetten Paddock Moto3), Danny Kent (Red Bull Husqvarna Ajo) and Livio Loi (Marc VDS Racing Team).
The best for Sissis was a 1:40.409 on day 2, but he couldn't equal that on the final day, with a best of 1:41.947, which good enough only for 20th place.
Moto3 testing resumes at Jerez between Tuesday 18 and Thursday 20 February.
