Metcher scores Supersport wildcard
Metcher, who secured a ride in the IDM German domestic Supersport series this season with Team Suzuki Mayer, has already won one race on the Mayer GSX-R600 and holds on to sixth overall in the championship.
"We requested a wildcard several weeks ago, but we just wanted to make it public when we got the confirmation by the Dorna, what now has happened", Team Manager Werner Mayer commented.
Metcher won the Superstock 600 European Championship title in 2011, before stepping up to the Supersport class in 2012, with Rivamoto Yamaha. In what was a frustrating debut season, Metcher showed good pace on most tracks, and was knocking on the top ten for most rounds, but a series of crashes saw the Aussie finish the season well down the championship table, his best race result being a 7th at Misano.
With no World Supersport rides forthcoming at the end of season 2012, Metcher took up the offer from Team Suzuki Mayer to ride the Suzuki GSX-R600 in the IDM.
"At this moment the WSS wild card is a really exciting experience for Team Suzuki Mayer", Metcher told WorldSBK.com.
"The development of the bike has been a morale booster for myself and the team. We will be looking for a top-10 finish, but with my experience in the class it will be a tough job, as the engine performance is an unknown factor."
The German round of the World Superbike Championship takes places on Sunday, September 1, at the Nurburgring circuit. Further details at www.worldsbk.com
