Maximo Quiles secures Moto2 ride for 2027

Maximo Quiles, the runaway leader in this year’s Moto3 World Championship, will move to Moto2 next year. Following the German GP in July, CFMOTO Aspar Team announced that the Spanish teenager will be elevated into their Moto2 squad for 2027. With both of CFMOTO Aspar’s current Moto2 riders – Dani Holgado and David Alonso – confirmed for MotoGP rides next year, it means Quiles will also have a new team mate for his Moto2 debut.

From Murcia in Spain, Quiles made his Moto3 debut in 2025 after a pair of European Talent Cup championships, along with success in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and Junior GP. With three wins and six other podiums from 18 starts in his rookie Moto3 season, Quiles finished third overall last year. After 11 rounds of this year’s Moto3 World Championship, Quiles had already doubled that win tally, with six victories, plus four other podiums to give him a 104-point championship lead. However, a DNF at the British GP had cut that margin back to 85 points at time of writing.

"I’m really motivated and can’t wait to try out the Moto2 bike – I’m really looking forward to it,” Quiles said. “I think it’s going to be a bike that really suits my style and is great fun. I’m tall and have long arms, so I think this type of bike will suit me well.

“The whole team’s work has been, and continues to be, excellent, and things have gone very well for me too. What I was clear about was that our aim was to be leaders of the category. At the moment there’s quite a points gap, but I hadn’t thought about exactly how many – it didn’t matter to me whether it was one, fifty or a hundred points. The important thing is to keep the same mindset."

With the CFMOTO Aspar Team running squads in both Moto3 and Moto2, it should make the transition easy for Quiles. Team boss, Jorge ‘Aspar’ Martinez is confident the 18-year-old is ready for the challenges that lay ahead, and that he will continue his success in the intermediate class.

“We’re delighted to be able to compete with Maximo Quiles in Moto2,” Martinez said. “This year he’s been the rider to beat in Moto3, and we’re going to keep working hard over the coming months to finish the season as champions before making the leap to the intermediate category.”
