Marmont signs with Kawasaki for 2012
Marmont will join talented Scotsman Billy Mackenzie at the factory Kawasaki Open class team, while Kade Mosig will represent Monster Energy Kawasaki in the Lites class. Marmont's 2012 Kawasaki KX 450F will wear the coveted #1 plate for both the 2012 MX and Super X Championships, after the 28-year-old from Wollongong won both championships with the CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha team this year.
"I'm excited and up for the new challenge," Marmont said at the Monster Energy Kawasaki team announcement. "It's awesome to be on a new bike and I'm starting to gel already with the bike and the new team.
"I'm looking forward to returning home this weekend and just riding the new KX450F and becoming familiar with it before returning to QLD in mid January for further testing.
"So far the KX450F is unreal. It's a very balanced bike and it feels really good on the track. The engine's strong and the Monster Energy Kawasaki guys have been great getting me familiar with the bike. I'm really enjoying riding it and I'm optimistic and looking forward to the new year."
One of Australia's most respected, talented and decorated riders, Marmont joins Kawasaki after winning this year's Super X Championship, as well as his fourth successive MX Championship. Marmont was also the Australian Supercross Champion in 2003 and 2004 and he has also enjoyed success overseas, taking 5th overall amongst the world's best in the 2005 AMA West Coast Lites MX Championship in the USA.
Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Troy Carroll was obviously rapt to secure the services of the multiple champion, making the green machines strong contenders for both Motocross and Supercross titles in 2012.
"We've really fine-tuned the race team for 2012. I've really been happy with the progress we've made with the new 450 and we already have one of the best 250's in the country.
"I'm extremely pleased to retain Billy Mackenzie and really happy that he will be joined by Jay Marmont and Kade Mosig. We're really looking forward to going racing in 2012."
Jay Marmont and the Monster Energy Kawasaki team's first official outing will be the 1st round of the 2012 Australian Motocross Championship in Queensland on 1 April.
