MadAss Tip Trippers charity ride
Yes, you read correctly, these guys are going to tackle the 800kms of rough and dusty road from Cooktown to the top of Queensland on the little CVT Sachs Madass 50, not the 125 manual! These little machines, with a blistering 50kph top speed, will basically be in stock condition for the 'Tip Trippers', except for some small mods to aid reliability and keep the dust out.
Over the last 2 months, The ScooterShed in Cairns has been pre-delivering all these machines to the fully subscribed locals and has provided generous spares and technical support to the ride. The locals have been attuning their butts, running bikes in and sorting them for the arduous journey, planned to take 8 days.
The local Regional Council and major business players in town are all involved, too, with many backup vehicles and fuel provided for free. The nominated charity for the event, ANGEL FLIGHT, will benefit to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars from the ride, with the locals having already raised some $7,000 from bowls days and otherfundraisers.
Organisers are also expecting that the gathering of 28 Madass 50s on Sunday, September 25 could well be a world record for the largest assembly of 'mopeds' of one type embarking on one of the worlds most challenging journeys. Here's hoping they all make it safely on the 'Tip Trip', as well asthe support crew of 50 or so others.
The journey will be documented on the 'madass tiptrippers' facebook page, with regular updates and a video to be produced of the ride.
