Lowes finishes strongly at 2013 World Supersport finale
The 23-year-old from Lincoln in the UK, who will ride in Moto2 next season, secured pole position with a 1'43.118 lap on the Yakhnich Yamaha YZF R6, ahead of Roberto Rolfo (Parkingo MV Agusta Corse) and Kenan Sofuoglo (Mahi Racing Team India Kawasaki). In his second World Supersport start this year, Brodie Waters qualified 29th on the AARK Racing Honda CBR 600RR.
In the race, Sofuoglu led away early, holding the lead from Lowes for the first eight laps. The Brit then fought back to the front, before last year's champion regained the lead again.
Not to be denied in his World Supersport swansong, Lowes managed to pass the Turk once more, with two laps to go, and pulled away for the win.
Rolfo had the better of Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Supersport) for third, whilst the other Pata Honda rider, Lorenzo Zanetti, ended up fifth with a 23-second gap from the winner. Riccardo Russo (Puccetti Racing Kawasaki) edged Kev Coghlan (DMC-Lorenzini Kawasaki) to finish in sixth place and Sheridan Morais (PTR Honda) did the same on Vladimir Leonov (Yakhnich Motorsport Yamaha) for eight position.
After retiring at Magny Cours, Waters finished at Jerez, in last place.
