Kawasaki Z1 to be celebrated at 2022 Broadford Bike Bonanza
After two years away due to COVID, the Shannons Insurance Broadford Bike Bonanza is back in 2022 and the iconic Kawasaki Z1 will be a focus of this year’s event on 16 and 17 April (Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday).
Organisers of this year’s Shannons Insurance Broadford Bike Bonanza (SIBBB) are inviting owners of all Z models from the ’70s and early ’80s to be part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations for the Z1, with a highway run to Broadford and off-track display planned, but still to be confirmed at time of writing.
A secondary focus this year will be on classic British scramblers, with a special scrambles track being laid out on site to suit older bikes - and older riders!
Beyond the Z celebrations and Brit scramblers, the 2022 SIBBB will feature the usual attractions, with all circuits at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex open for non-competitive riding of pre-1995 motorcycles, as well as trade stands, a swap meet, on-site camping and the popular Gala Dinner.
Key changes to the 2022 SIBBB start with the requirement for all attendees – participants, volunteers and spectators - to be double vaccinated against COVID-19 and required to show proof of their double vax status on entry.
All ticket sales, for participants and public alike, will be via online pre-sale only, with no tickets available at the gate. Entries for participants close on Monday, 4 April, and all ticket holders will be required to print a copy of their ticket and present it at the gate for entry.
Finally, the 2022 SIBBB will be a two-day event only, dropping the Good Friday lead-in from previous years.
Spectator entry prices start at $40/day for adults and $30/day concession, with kids under 16 admitted free (but still required to prove vaccination status). Participant entry starts at $50 for trials, $70 for MX, speedway and combined trials/enduro, and $110 for road race. Entering additional bikes in the same discipline attracts additional fees and a one-event MA licence is required.
