Kawasaki release new Ninja 1000 ABS
Like its predecessor, the new 2014 Ninja 1000 ABS offers street riding excitement wrapped in full-fairing styling. Changes to both engine and chassis deliver more direct response so riders can feel even more connected to their ride.
Mechanically, the 2014-spec Ninja 1000 ABS is unchanged from its predecessor, running the same 1043cc inline four engine with 11.8:1 compression ratio and fuel injection, 6-speed transmission, 41mm front forks, back-link rear shock, 300mm front discs and 250mm rear disc.
However, the overall powertrain, suspension and braking package has been tweeked for 2014, to deliver improved power, as well as greater rider control and comfort. Power is up to 104.5kW @ 10,000 rpm, while torque is marginally improved, up to 111Nm, but delivers it earlier, at 7,300 rpm (performance was 101.5kW @ 9,600 rpm and 110Nm @ 7,600 rpm on the 2013 model).
New features for 2014 include two fresh colour schemes, optional integrated panniers (genuine Kawasaki accessory), remote preload adjustability for the rear shock, monobloc front brake calipers, 3-mode KTRC (Kawasaki TRaction Control) and selectable Power Modes, which add to the Ninja 1000's already highly versatile performance.
Updates and improvements on the 2014 model Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ABS include:
- More power and torque
- Sharper throttle response adds to the 1043cc inline four's strong high-rpm pull and acceleration
- Enhanced intake note adds to riding exhilaration
- Firmer initial touch from the 300mm front discs' radial-mount monobloc calipers improves enhanced feel and controllability
- Radial-pump front brake master cylinder also contributes to controllability
- Remote preload adjuster
- Integrated panniers can each hold a full-face helmet (optional accessory)
- Kawasaki's latest traction control: 3-mode KTRC
- Power Mode selection: Full and Low Power
Fuel capacity (19 litres), kerb weight (231kg wet), seat height (820mm) and overall dimensions are unchanged for 2014.
The 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ABS is available now in two new colour schemes: Candy Lime Green and Metallic Graphite Grey, replacing the Candy Lime Green/Ebony and Pearl Stardust White of the 2013 models. A silver finish to the mufflers is also new for 2014, replacing the black of the 2103 models.
