Honda confirms new Aus MX/SX team
Number 1 rider for the Yarrive Konsky-managed team is Brett Metcalfe. Bringing vast national and international experience to the team, Metcalfe also brings knowledge of Honda, as the 33-year-old has enjoyed most of his success to date on the red machines.
“I want to win an Australian Motocross Championship in MX1 before I finish racing professionally,” Metcalfe explained. “During my career I’ve achieved my best overall results with Honda. In 2009, I was third in the (AMA) 250 class and, in 2010, I took six podium finishes on my way to second overall to Ryan Dungey in the 450 class when competing in America.”
Last year, in what was a ‘homecoming’ after 14 years of competition in the US, Metcalfe did a partial MX Nationals campaign with SD3 Husqvarna, then completed the season with Mega Fuels Monster Energy Kawasaki, where his best race result was a pair of second place finishes at Rd6 in Nowra.
Penrite Honda’s second rider, Todd Waters, returns for 2018, but will run a limited local MX campaign due to overseas commitments. The 27-year-old will be backed by Penrite Honda for his US AMA assault, with the aim of returning to run the full 2018 Australian Supercross Championship. “I can’t thank Yarrive and Honda enough.” Waters said. “Everyone has been super supportive of my goal to compete in America.”
