Harley W model 75th Anniversary - October
The 75th Anniversary of the W Series Harley-Davidson Motorcycle will take place at Echuca-Moama, on the NSW-Victorian border, on October 26 - 28, 2012.
The venerable 45 cubic inch 'W' motor platform was manufactured by Harley-Davidson from 1937 through 1952 as a solo and 3 wheeler Servi-Car, then carried on powering the G model Servi-Car up to 1973. This is the longest production run of any motor platform in Harley's history.
The many solo W models offered a myriad of activity with this engine, providing the WLA series, of which many thousands were manufactured for the military in World War II, the WL series for solo use, the Servi-Car 3 wheeler mainly for industrial use, and of course the WR series racers that were (and still are) the bike to beat on dirt and tarmac race tracks in Class C racing in the USA and elsewhere around the world.
Event organisers already have examples of all these models entered for the 75th Anniversary event, with more entries coming in daily. The goal is to have as many W series motorcycles and riders in attendance as possible - and the biggest number of 45s together in the one place.
Different W series motorcycles are coming out of sheds and organizers are thrilled at the prospect of witnessing motorcycles they haven't seen and owners they haven't met before. Response so far has been very positive, but event organisers say more Ws are welcome, so if you have a W model or have friends or folks that do, the organisers urge you to let them know.
Harley-Davidson Archivist, Historian, HD Milwaukee Museum legend and W model collector, Bill Rodencal, will be attending as an entrant on a WLA and/or Servi-Car, as well as a judge and keynote presenter at the "Walla Bill 45 University" on the Saturday evening of the event.
Event entry includes the welcome reception on the Friday night, two days of W (and rider) friendly routes around the scenic NSW/Victorian border, three breakfasts, the Award and Banquet Ceremony on the Sunday night, plus a surprise or two throughout the event.
Accommodation is available at 'The Moama on Murray Resort' in Moama, which is also the event headquarters. The number is (03) 5480-3031.
