Format and rider lineup for first Virtual Grand Prix confirmed
The ‘Red Bull Virtual Grand Prix of Spain’ will be held live on Sunday 3 May at 3:00pm Spanish time (11:00pm AEST), with riders to virtually race the Jerez circuit. Each class will race as per a normal GP, but rider fields and race distances will be reduced. In MotoGP, there will be eleven riders on the grid, with ten riders each in Moto2 and Moto3. MotoGP will compete over 13 laps – the equivalent of 50 per cent of normal race distance at Jerez - whilst the Moto2 and Moto3 virtual races will both be held over eight laps - 35 per cent of race distance.
All riders will be “racing” on the new official MotoGP20 Videogame from Milestone that was released on 23 April.
Qualifying sessions will decide the grid, with highlights from those sessions to be shown before the broadcast (Fox Australia and TEN locally). The format will follow a normal Grand Prix weekend, with Moto3 racing first, followed by Moto2 and MotoGP.
After the virtual racing, a post-race Press Conference for each class will be held live on MotoGP’s Instagram feed - MotoGP at 5:00pm, Moto2 at 5:30pm and Moto3 at 6:00pm GMT+2 (equivalent to 1:00am, 1:30am and 2:00am AEST).
