Custom Special
We were introduced to Caleb at the 2007 Brisbane Motorcycle Expo and were really impressed with the standard of his work back then. At this year's Gold Coast Motorcycle Expo, we had the chance to catch up with Caleb again, and the standard hasn't dropped. If anything, the quality and detail of his work has only got better!
If you were at the Gold Coast Expo, you would have seen the Kawasaki ZX14 with custom airbrushing inspired by The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. This amazing big custom was one of a pair of bikes Caleb had on his stand, along with custom-airbrushed tanks, fenders and other examples of his handiwork.
The Mummy-themed bike was commissioned by Kawasaki enthusiast, Steve Nikolas. The six month project included polished custom rims, aftermarket grips & levers, Yoshi exhaust system and lashings of chrome and billet goodies.
For his part, Caleb spent four weeks on the incredibly detailed airbrushing, which features various scenes and creatures from the film. So why 'The Mummy'? Apparently, Steve is a big fan of the movie, and Asian culture in general, so the Chinese imagery used in the film was a great inspiration. Thanks in no small part to Caleb's artwork, the big ZX14 picked up an ACBC trophy for Best Sports Performance Bike at the Gold Coast Expo. As this issue went to press, we were informed this bike is for sale. Phone Steve on 0422 294 103 for details and pricing.
The other bike on Caleb's stand at the Gold Coast Expo was the 'Picadilly Princess'. Built around a late model Harley Softail by Jeff & Paul of Wrench Devil Cycles in Brisbane, Caleb painted up this bobber custom with WWII-style aircraft nose art, and the Scottish 'Order of the Thistle' for a Canadian client.
