CDR Rockstar Yamaha continue success in 2011
Marmont entered the final Super X round, held at North Ipswich stadium, in good form and with the championship lead, but ultimate victory was by no means assured. Determined to stamp his authority on both the round and the series, Marmont rode strong in the heats and took some confidence heading into the 20 lap main event.
At the start of the final, Marmont took the lead on the first lap and set sail for the finish line. After he gained a comfortable margin over the rest of the pack, the CDR Yamaha rider relentlessly ticked off lap after lap, with lapped riders the only thing hindering his progress to the chequered flag. At the finish, Marmont had finished well clear of his nearest rival, which meant the championship was his.
After a poor start to the 2011 Monster Energy Super X championship, Marmont stormed back through the remaining four rounds, claiming 3-1-2-1 results on the way to his first ever Super X championship. The victory was also the result of a huge effort by the rest of the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team, after they lost their number 2 rider, Jake Moss, with an injury in the third round. The Super X Championship is Marmont's second national Pro Open championship in 2011, after he also wrapped up the MX Nationals title for the fourth time in succession.
"I was really determined to finish on a strong note and show that I deserved this championship," Marmont said after the victory.
"I felt good in practice and the bike was perfect so it was up to me to keep my mind on the job and peel off the best racing laps I could.
"The CDR Rockstar Yamaha team must also take plenty of credit as they continually do a great job and never leave anything unturned in their preparation. We had the right tyres, the best bike set up and it was a real team effort from everyone, so I can't thank them enough."
Marmont's Super X victory also capped off a dominant year for the CDR Rockstar Team. CDR team owner, Craig Dack, was a happy man at racings' end as he led his team to another 2011 victory.
"With the opening round results not being so flash, I knew we had it all in front of us but I never doubted that we couldn't do it. I had complete faith in the staff at CDR to build the best bike and Jay's determination and fight is unquestioned so it was a very satisfying victory for all of us.
"This now completes our race commitments for the year and I would like to take this time to that everyone at Yamaha, our team sponsors and staff for an amazing year. This is our first national supercross championship since 2005 and to come on the back of a 1-2 finish in the MX Nationals is a fantastic result," Dack concluded.
