You may be forgiven for thinking that there isn't much you can do in the way of customising an off-road bike. Well this month, the guys from Crazy Dogs Motor-cycle Accessories in Burpengary, Qld have certainly laid that old chestnut to rest!
What you see here is the latest Kawasaki KLX 450R fitted out with over $9,000 worth of accessories that must qualify this bike as the ultimate KLX. While the average owner may never need to go this far, the Crazy Dogs custom showcases the sort of gear that is available to make a great bike even better. Yes, some of the gear is cosmetic only, but there is also plenty of equipment bolted onto this unit that offers huge performance enhancements. According to Crazy Dogs, the engine in this enduro needs little modification to bring it up to the same spec as the motocross bike. Fitting an aftermarket system such as the Pro Circuit T-4 system, making some airbox modifications and rejetting the carb will turn the KLX from a competent enduro into a very lively beast indeed. Give the bike some throttle and the MSC Titan underbar steering damper and suspension mods come into their own, soaking up pretty just about everything that can be thrown at them. On open trails, the bike is capable of 160 km/h and the STM slipper clutch keeps the rear wheel tracking nicely so you don't have to worry about the rear locking up while downshifting over slippery surfaces.
