After a disappointing 250cc campaign with the underpowered and underfunded team Sicilia outfit, West revelled in the chance to turn some laps on bona fide MotoGP machinery.
As part of an official post-race test session at Catalunya,West turned laps on the factory Kawasaki ZX-RR, filling in for regular team rider, Olivier Jacque, who was injured in a pre-race practice session. If Jacque isn't race fit for the British MotoGP round at Donington Park, West may also score a one-off ride with the team.

With the future of the Ilmor MotoGP outfit on hold, Andrew Pitt was also turning development laps at Catalunya, testing Michelin tyres on a Yamaha supplied by the factory Fiat Yamaha outfit. Pitt's future as a test rider beyond the Catalunya round is unknown. However, both Pitt and West have also been proving handy as fill-in riders in the World Supersport class, scoring podiums and outpacing many of the series regulars.
