Aussie team announced for 2022 MX of Nations
The Australian team for the 2022 Motocross of Nations (MXoN) has been announced, with the squad to wear the green and gold at Red Bud, Michigan, this coming 22-24 September consisting of Mitch Evans, Hunter Lawrence and Jett Lawrence.

With the 2020 MXoN cancelled due to COVID-19 and Australia not sending a team to last year’s event for the same reason, this year will mark the first time since 2019 that Team Australia has been in action against the world’s best in motocross. Back then, the Netherlands won from Belgium, with the UK third, while Team Australia finished 15th.

This year’s three rider squad of Mitch Evans, Hunter Lawrence and Jett Lawrence will be managed by Michael Byrne, with former manager Gary Benn as assistant. Evans will ride the MX1 class, with Hunter Lawrence in MX2 and Jett Lawrence in MX Open.
Both Evans and Hunter Lawrence have represented Australia before (Evans in 2016 and 2018, Hunter Lawrence in 2017 and 2018), but the 2022 MXoN will mark a first for Jett Lawrence, who will also step up to a 450cc machine in the Open Class after riding a 250 in AMA SX and MX competition.

Supported once again by MXstore, all three members of Team Australia will go to Red Bud with some confidence, not least Jett Lawrence, who recently wrapped up his second successive AMA 250 MX title in the USA, while Hunter finished third in the same class. At time of writing, Mitch Evans was tenth overall in the MXGP World Championship.

Of the squad for this year’s MXoN, Peter Doyle, CEO, Motorcycling Australia (MA), said: “If you’re going to miss a couple of Motocross of Nations events, then this is the best way to announce your return! This is a stand-out team, ready to give their all for their country.
“Jett and Hunter racing in the USA, at a track they are familiar with, is a big advantage and with Mitch in MX1, we think this trio are a red-hot chance to bring home our first ever MXoN title.”
Team Australia’s best result at the MXoN has been third in 2011, when Chad Reed, Brett Metcalfe and Matt Moss were representing, split across Honda, Suzuki and KTM machinery.
This year, all three Aussies will be on Hondas.

“On behalf of MA and the wider motorcycling community in Australia, I’d like to thank American Honda Corporation and Honda Australia for their help and for solving our always-present logistic and support issues. Thanks also goes to MXstore for their support.”
The 2022 Motocross of Nations will take place at Red Bud, Michigan, USA on 22-24 September, 2022.
