Aus Superbikes adjusts 2021 calendar again
The 2021 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul, has confirmed date and venue changes for the remainder of this year’s season.
With these latest changes, the ASBK Management Team are aiming complete the season as soon as practical and to ensure the championship has the best possible chance to conduct the maximum amount of rounds.
With the Morgan Park round cancelled back in July and The Bend round rescheduled under previous calendar adjustments, Round 4 at Hidden Valley back in June was the last to be completed.
Racing is due to return in October, though, starting at Wakefield Park. This round had been scheduled for 15-17 October, was dropped and is now back on the calendar in its original date.
However, should the rampant COVID-19 situation in NSW continue, there’s every chance this round will be dropped again and multiple rounds will be compressed into a single weekend at other venues.
From Wakefield Park, the Superbike class only (no Aus Supersport, Supersport 300, Yamaha R3 Cup or Oceania Junior Cup) will be part of the all-new Bass Coast Festival of Motorsport at Phillip Island on 22-24 October, which was to be the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix weekend.
All ASBK classes will be back for Rounds 7 and 8 at The Bend in South Australia as part of a four-day programme on 11-14 November.
For now, the Alpinestars Superbikes class will conduct a single round format (Round 8) over 3 races at The Bend, with all other ASBK classes racing a double-header format (Round 7 & 8). However, should ongoing border closures and travel restrictions prevent the Wakefield Park or Phillip Island rounds going ahead, the Superbikes will join other classes with a double-header at The Bend, too.
The season finale at Phillip Island remains, but now on a new date of 3-5 December, which is almost a month later than originally scheduled.
