2010 FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide
A bad ass bike like this needed a rider to suit and they came out of the woodwork in droves. As the years passed the Wide Glide underwent a few mechanical and cosmetic changes until Harley decided to discontinue it in 1986.
The Wide Glide was relaunched in 1993 in a completely new Dyna frame, powered by the iconic and now rubber mounted Evolution engine until 1999, when it was replaced by an all new Twin Cam 88 cubic inch (1450cc) engine and updated frame to suit. Increasing in popularity the Dyna Wide Glide continued to undergo more engine, frame and aesthetic improvements until it was once again discontinued at the end of 2007.
The great news is that for the 2010 model year the Wide Glide is back. The bike has been totally redesigned, and you might say it has been 'blacked out.' It sports black laced steel 21 inch front and 17 inch rear wheels, black engine case, black mirrors, black battery cover, black headlamp, you get the picture...
What hasn't been painted black or stripped off gets chromed with a mirror finish second to none. The seat has been split and cut down with a pulled back rear sissy bar added. Bars shortened and flattened combined with forward controls puts the rider in a low slung 'easy rider' position. The infamous 'Bobtail' rear guard has been tossed aside this time and a new 'chopped' guard put in its place, matched with an LED tail lamp gives the rear end retro 'old school' styling that never looks outdated. To top it off, low shocks dump that rear end to hug that wide Dunlop GT502 180/60-17 rear tyre.
The front end has not been forgotten, now beefed up with 49 mm forks replacing the older 41mm setup with 4 inch high black risers and a Dunlop GT502F 80/90-21 low profile front tyre. Easy reach hand controls and a light clutch makes city riding a breeze. Finally, a 34 degree rake in the frame retains that kicked out, stretched look that you come to expect from a Wide Glide.
The Wide Glide is now powered by an impressive Electronic Fuel Injected Air-cooled 96 Ci (1584cc) Twin Cam engine capable of producing 127Nm/94 ft lbs of torque @ 3500rpm, matched perfectly with a six-speed cruise drive transmission and a chrome 2-1-2 Tommy Gun exhaust. This gives the rider an awesome combination of power and low cruising RPM at any speed. Whether it's the concrete jungle or the open road the new Wide Glide will do it comfortably, quickly and efficiently.
A Street Bob style fuel tank with a generous 17.3 litre capacity, full dash and white face speedo which is new on the Wide Glide, offers a neat, minimalist styling that does not sacrifice on fuel storage.
Available in three colours: Red Hot Sunglo, Vivid Black and if you want to spend a little more you can get Vivid Black Flame, which is one of the most intense and extravagant paint jobs ever to grace factory Harley.
The 2010 FXDWG Wide Glide is a fantastic bike and is priced at (including Victorian registration, stamp duty etc) is: $28,725 ride away (Vivid Black, Red Hot Sunglo) or $29,725 ride away in Vivid Black Flame.
