2 x Gardners to ride at Phillip Island MotoGP
The 'Legends of MotoGP' have a special connection to the Phillip Island circuit after both claimed two victories on the Island during their illustrious careers.
The day will carry extra significance for Gardner, as he will be joined by his 13 year-old son Remy, who will debut Honda's new NSF 250R Moto3 racebike. This will be the bike's first public outing in Australia and a prelude to the 4-stroke Moto3 class that will replace the current 125cc 2-stroke class in 2012.
"I see it as a real honour to ride on my home track in front of my fans with my son, I'm expecting it to be a really special moment in my life," Gardner said.
"It's great to be able to share a place and a sport that I am so passionate about with my family."
Gardner revealed that despite his dominance on the circuit during his career, he won't be out there to race son Remy who recently recorded his first victory in the Moto3 250cc class in Spain.
"He's too fast for me now so I prefer not to race!" Gardner senior declared.
"He's cheeky and wants to prove he can beat me. It's lucky I will be on a 1000cc and he will be on a 250cc."
Along with the Legends of MotoGP, the 2011 IVECO Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix on track entertainment will include the Australian Superbikes and Australian Superstock 1000 as well as the thundering bikes of the Australian Historics.
