1974 kawasaki z1 900 road
Seller's Description
This Z9 motorcycle, a timeless classic, has undergone a painstaking and comprehensive restoration, returning it to its former glory. This restoration project has involved meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to preserving the authenticity of the bike within reason.
THE BEGINNING
The process began with stripping the bike down to its bare frame. Each component was cleaned, and restored or replaced as necessary. The original engine was preserved and refitted to the frame, ensuring the bike retained its historical integrity. Wherever possible, original parts were used, maintaining the authenticity of this iconic machine.
MEDIA BLASTING & RE-PAINTING
All painted metal parts were media blasted to remove old paint and any surface corrosion. This process was crucial for preparing the parts for the high-quality finish that would follow. Each metal part was then repainted using 2-pack (2 pac) paint. This not only restored the bike's appearance but also provided long-lasting protection against the elements.
RE-ZINCED COMPONENTS
Bolts, washers, springs, and various other metal components were re-zinced. This process involved coating these parts with a layer of zinc, which provides excellent corrosion resistance. Re-zinced components not only add to the bike's longevity but also contribute to its polished and refined look.
ENGINE OVERHAUL
The heart of the Z9, its engine, was subjected to an extensive overhaul. The engine cases were split and were vapour blasted to clean and prepare them for reassembly. The top end of the engine was rebored, and new pistons, rings, and a timing chain were fitted. The valves were lapped in and fitted with new valve stem seals, ensuring a perfect seal and optimal performance. New gaskets and seals were installed throughout . Additionally, the outer engine cases were repolished, and new outer case screws were fitted, enhancing the engine's appearance and integrity.
There is a new electronic ignition installed for better performance and reliabitlity.
CARBURETTOR RESTORATION
The carburettors were disassembled, vapour blasted, and meticulously cleaned. Metal parts were rezinced, and the carbs were retuned to ensure optimal fuel delivery and performance. New carby inlet manifolds and carby-to-airbox rubbers were installed, along with a new air filter.
LIGHTING
To improve visibility and safety, an H4 headlight was fitted, providing better illumination for nighttime riding. New indicators, stems, and mounting rubbers were also installed.
WHEEL & SUSPENSION OVERHAUL
The front and rear wheel hubs were vapour blasted and fitted with new rims, spokes, tyres, and tubes. The front forks were rebuilt with new seals and dust covers, and tapered headstem bearings were installed. The lower legs were vapour blasted and polished. New front and rear guards were fitted.
CONTROLS & GAUGES
New switch blocks, throttle cables, tach cables, and a new clutch cable were installed to ensure smooth and responsive control. The gauges were stripped, cleaned, and repainted, restoring their functionality and readability.
SUSPENSION & BODY WORK
New rear shocks were fitted, improving the bike's ride comfort and handling. The bodywork was repainted in 2 pac to a high standard, and new badges were affixed, giving the bike a fresh appearance. A new complete seat was fitted, providing both comfort and style.
BRAKING SYSTEM & EXHAUST
The braking system was entirely overhauled with new brake hoses from top to bottom, a new brake master cylinder, new brake pads, . A new reproduction exhaust system was installed, maintaining the bike's original sound and performance characteristics.
FINISHING TOUCHES
A genuine stone style fiberglass fairing was installed and painted to the body colour.
A new dry cell battery was installed. The comprehensive restoration included countless other details, each contributing to the bike's overall performance, reliability, and aesthetic appeal.
The restoration of the Z9 motorcycle is a testament to the dedication involved in reviving a classic machine. By combining original components with modern improvements, this restoration has not only preserved the bike's historical significance but also enhanced its performance and longevity.
The Z9 now stands as a shining example of what can be achieved through meticulous restoration and a passion for motorcycling heritage.
