Based on Laverda’s very successful 11000-series 750 SFC which were built in 1972 to compete in European 24-hour endurance racing, this bike is a very accurate replica which performs as well or better than the original and looks as outstanding as they did then. Applying the experience gained from racing these SFC’s in 1972, Laverda released the SF1 sports tourer in 1973 which incorporated much of the engine and chassis development from the 11000 series SFC.
This bike has been built as an SFC from a 1973 SF1 using SFC parts including; SFC high compression pistons and 5/C cam, close ratio gearbox, competition two-into-one factory racing exhaust (with removable baffle for road use) and other engine refinements to make this a very fast bike (even by contemporary stands but certainly for a bike of its era). The only nod to current engine technology has been the installation of a DMC electronic ignition which significantly enhances performance whilst reducing maintenance.
The SFC bodywork includes; 24-litre fiberglass tank, seat, fairing, front mudguard and rear-set gear and brake lever assemblies. The front brake is a 4 leading shoe Grimeca (NOS) which along with the Ceriani alternative, were the brakes used in competition (the Laverda front brake/wheel also comes with the bike). Suspension is the original (refurbished) Ceriani front and rear that still work brilliantly, with alternate mounting position for the rear shocks as per racing versions.
This replica has some enhancements to make it easy to live with for normal riding. These include a GPS speedo (11000 series SFC’s didn’t come with a speedo), instruments mounted in the cockpit, small but very functional indicators and unobtrusive mirrors. Although very true to its racing origins, this bike is a delight to ride on the road with a very traceable engine, truly superb handling and functional instruments, switch gear etc.
The bike is currently on Vic Club Permit plates which are not transferable however a Vic or NSW roadworthy can be provided. The actual mileage of the bike is not known due to its age. The original SF1 body parts also come with the bike. These include; tank, seat, front & rear mudguards, side covers, headlight, ND speedo, instrument bracket, foot pegs, gear & brake levers plus many other parts and spares.
