Jake Cannon signs new deal with Bud Kawasaki
Australia’s Jake Cannon, the younger brother to WMX star, Charli, will continue racing in Europe’s EMX250 Championship next year after signing a new deal with Venum Bud Racing Kawasaki. The 19-year-old from Queensland is currently in his second EMX250 season with the French team.
Australian PROMX MX3 Champion in 2024, Cannon joined Bud Racing in 2025, finishing his debut season In the European championship eighth overall, with the highlight being a podium result at the UK round. So far this year, Cannon has won two rounds (at Trentino, Italy, and Teutschenthal, Germany) and sits third overall in the championship. Cannon’s team mate, Francisco Garcia, leads the championship after nine of twelve rounds.
To build experience and stay race fit, Cannon will race in selected rounds of the AMA outdoor MX championship in the USA, as well as the World Supercross Championship, but says his sights are set firmly on next year’s European series.
“I’m very happy to continue for one more season with Bud and Kawasaki, who gave me the chance to race in Europe two years ago. It’s never easy to adapt to new tracks, new people, different food and so on, but I must say that the team has always been behind me.
“A lot of progression has been made from last year, but I’m excited for more. I have more experience and for sure working in the same environment will allow me to get the best results.”
Stephane Dasse, Team Principal at Venum Bud Racing Kawasaki, said he was happy to sign Cannon for another EMX250 season: “He's getting ever more used to racing in Europe, and I think it's the right time for him to do one last season in EMX250 to be fully prepared for the next stage of his career.
“Jake will also be competing in the WSX World Supercross Championship in the 250 class with us as his future could take him to either Europe or the United States.
“Jake is a great guy, a hard worker, and we really enjoy having him on our team.”
The 2026 EMX250 Championship concludes in Turkiye in September.
