It’s a motorcycling cornucopia at Manshed Auctions
Manshed Auctions have already established themselves as the specialists in the auctioning of classic motorcycles, parts and collectables. Their upcoming August ‘Vintage Motorcycles & Parts’ auction only enhances that reputation, with more than 400 lots on offer.
What sets the August auction apart from previous Harley-Davidson themed sales conducted by Manshed Auctions is the broader offering of motorcycling marques. Bikes from Triumph, Royal Enfield, James and Douglas feature, plus an abundance of parts to suit classic British models – from BSA to Royal Enfield.
Don’t fear, there are plenty of Harley-Davidson parts and collectables available in this auction, too, curated by Mark Austin (formerly of Pacific H-D) – a man who knows more than most when it comes to the motorcycles from Milwaukee.
This multi-vendor auction also features a couple of Japanese bikes, so there’s variety in abundance!

AMERICAN
Headlining the motorcycle consignments for this auction are a pair of Harley-Davidson FLs. Both are in very good condition and have already attracted strong pre-bid interest.
LOT #5 – 1948 FL Panhead
From the first year for the Panhead, this original, unrestored example features a springer front end, Flanders ‘bar and risers, plus rare ‘garbage lid’ hubcaps, spotlights and leather saddlebags. Mechancially maintained, this very collectable early Panhead could be fully restored, or used as is.
LOT #6 – 1969 Harley-Davidson FL Shovelhead
Early Shovelhead (and last year for the generator) with a matching numbers engine that’s in outstanding condition. Regular maintenance and low mileage under vendor’s 30-year ownership. Minor mechanical refurbishments have been made, with a high-output battery fitted.
BRITISH
A tasty selection of post-war British motorcycles are amongst the highlights of the August auction. The offerings include some familiar classics, as well as models that rarely come up for sale, so don’t miss out!
LOT #7 – 1953 Triumph T15 Terrier
Rare predecessor to the better-known Tiger Cub, this complete, first-year example features the correct 150cc 4T single, tele fork front end, plunger rear and sprung saddle. One owner for 56 years and an impressive survivor. One of the more interesting motorcycles this auction.
LOT #9 – 1949 James Comet
First-year example of this lightweight commuter with girder fork front and rigid rear. Villiers 98cc 2T single, two-speed transmission, direct electric lighting. Older restoration and good condition overall. A rival in period to the classic BSA Bantam.
LOT #8 – 1955 James Captain
‘K7’ model with 197cc Villiers 2T single, tele fork front end and twin shock rear. This roadgoing model has been re-imagined as a scrambler, with non-standard mudguards, knobby tyres and other modifications. In vendor’s collection for 40 years, well maintained, ready to ride and enjoy in the dirt.
LOT #4 – 1957 Francis-Barnett Cruiser 80
Francis-Barnett’s ‘Cruiser’ models were well-engineered lightweight commuters. This example appears in good condition overall, finished in a colour close to F-B’s signature Arden Green. It features a 250cc 2T single, four-speed transmission, tele fork front and twin-shock rear.
LOT #1 – 1950 Matchless G9
Early example of the ‘Super Clubman’ model that endured until 1961. Powered by a 500cc parallel twin, with a four-speed transmission, tele fork front, twin shock rear, Smiths instrumentation and drum brakes. This G9 is well-preserved and appears to be in complete, running condition.
LOT #10 – 1952 Royal Enfield Model J
From the days when Royal Enfields were still made in England, the Model J was the first Royal Enfield to carry the famous Bullet name. With a 499cc single matched to a four-speed transmission, this 1952 example features a tele fork front and rigid rear. A solid survivor in good condition.
LOT #2 – 1948 Douglas T35 S
Douglas’s flat twin models defined the marque for most of their post-war existence. On a 1948 T35 S, the ‘S’ stood for ‘Sports,’ which meant hotter cams for the OHV 350cc twin, amongst other changes. This example appears to be an older restoration, but still presents well.
LOT #3 – 1950 Douglas MkIV
Following the T35, Douglas introduced the MkIII in 1948, then the MkIV in 1950. A 350cc flat twin was common throughout this period, with incremental improvements defining the different ‘marks’. With one owner for the past 30 years, this is a good, running example of an increasingly rare model.
JAPANESE
The two Japanese bikes in the August couldn’t be more different! The Honda Z50A, better known as the Monkey Bike, was so beloved that Honda reintroduced it. The Yamaha is a typical mid-1990s dirt bike that would make a great paddock basher or first ride for the junior motocrosser
LOT #11 – 1967 Honda Z50A
A very sought-after classic these days, the Z50M and similar Z50A were fully-functional, road-registerable motorcycles. This example blends the distinctive tartan seat of the Z50M with the high-exit exhaust of the Z50A. Said to start and run strongly, this pint-sized Honda should sell well.
LOT #12 – 1995 Yamaha TT350
Bridging the gap between Yamaha’s YZ motocrossers and XT street scramblers, the TT lineage continues to this day. This example is powered by a 349cc air-cooled single, matched to a six-speed gearbox, and comes with lights and indicators for full (or recreational) registration. Listed mileage of 10,000kms is believed to be genuine.
PARTS and COLLECTABLES
For Harley-Davidson owners, restorers and collectors, there’s a huge range of parts in the August ‘Vintage Motorcycles & Parts’ auction to choose from. Spares to suit WLA, J Model, G Model, VL, RL and others are on offer, as well as generic parts to suit a variety of classic Harleys - from the 1920s to the 1970s.
Along with rare mechanical parts, like a complete ServiCar diff, available lots in this auction also cover minutiae like footboard mounts, headlight rims, pillion peg brackets and seat bases. Additionally, there’s a variety of solo and buddy seats, tail light shells, fuel filters and more.
A selection of Harley-Davidson service manuals, books and literature are also available, plus Harley-themed memorabilia that includes pins, poker chips and playing cards. For something different, there are also a couple of ‘toppers’ to mount small flags on a Harley for parade use.
