BMW Motorrad has confirmed pricing and details for their F 450 R naked, bringing a new option to the LAMS market. Based on chassis and componentry already seen on the F 450 GS, the F 450 R is well-equipped and has a high spec level, while the compact 420cc parallel twin engine produces a claimed 35kW and 43Nm, placing it amongst the most powerful offerings in its class while still retaining LAMS legality.

Three variants of the new naked will be released to the Australian market; a base F 450 R, the F 450 R Exclusive and F 450 R M Sport ERC. The upper two grades add more equipment, but the base spec is still pretty impressive, with a six-speed transmission, KYB suspension, a Brembo front brake caliper and standard ABS Pro.
Other features across the range include 17-inch alloy wheels, a 14-litre fuel tank, full LED lighting, heated grips, a 6.5-inch TFT instrument screen, USB-C port, three riding modes (Rain, Road and Dynamic), Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control and Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR).

On top of this, the Exclusive variant adds Shift Assistant Pro (clutchless up/down shifting) and Sport suspension with adjustable compression and rebound damping on the 43mm USD forks. The M Sport ERC includes both these features, plus Riding Modes Pro (adding a configurable riding mode) and the Easy Ride Clutch that engages the clutch according to engine speed, improving riding comfort.

Beyond its powerful engine (that’s specifically tuned for road riding) and abundance of tech, other listed benefits of the F 450 R are said to include excellent handling, impressive fuel efficiency (3.8lt/100km) and rigorous weight optimisation that has delivered a wet weight of just 175kg. Styling has been inspired by BMW’s S 1000 R full-size naked, with colour options defined by the model. The F 450 R and F 450 R Exclusive will be available in Cosmic Black, with the F 450 R M Sport ERC finished in Snaefell White with M Motorsport branding.
Australian pricing starts at $10,290 for the F 450 R, $10,790 for the Exclusive and $11,490 for the M Sport ERC.
