Seller's Description
It is a Cafe Racer Special built up from a Velocette MAC 350cc engine, from about 1953, using a 1951 Velo frame with Dowty Oleomatic forks now using internal springs. The bike has a Velo MSS gearbox, probably from 1938/9. So it is an English pattern 4 speed gearbox. Fuel tank is also from an early MSS, fuel filler cap is on the left. Oil tank is from a later Velo as it has an internal oil filter element. Fairing is hand made from aviation grade aluminium 6061, as are the primary chain case, the alternator drive cover and the rear drive chain cover. The bike has a new AMAL carby, fully refurbished BTH magneto. In fact everything has been thoroughly rebuilt and renewed. The engine has been completely rebuilt and works beautifully! It rides quite well and happily runs along at a road speed about 95Km/h at roughly 3,500 plus rpm. (The tacho works and but as you would expect it bounces around a bit!) Please note it is an English bike from the 1950s, even though everything is refurbished it does leak oil from the primary chain case. I have had the bike on the road on Victorian Club Permit system since July 2022 so it has 1,050 miles it it thus far of nearly 2 years of riding. I'm just about used to the infamous Velocette starting procedure so can usually get it running, mostly 1st kick or by 3rd go. I did make a set of electric roller starters (based on a 9 inch angle grinder) for it and used these until I'd worked out the proper kick start procedure. The roller starter is also available for purchase separately from the bike. Any questions, please ring me to discuss. I have hundreds of photos of the restoration as I had to hand make a lot of parts, such as the kick starter and foot peg mounts etc. I can arrange a Victorian RWC if required, but as I live at Phillip Island the usual wait for such things is around 4-5weeks, sorry!
