Seller's Description
Introduced in 1923, Moto Guzzi’s Sport series is the model upon which the Guzzi name gained global recognition. In 1921, Gino Finzi's win of the Targa Florio kick-started three decades of racing success that made Moto Guzzi a house-hold name, and a name that was synonymous with cutting edge design and ingenious solutions to technical problems that left many of their competitors stranded on the road-side. What wins on Sunday sells on Monday, and today, nearly a century later, Moto Guzzi is still regarded as a builder of strong and reliable motorcycles. In 1931 the Sport 15 was introduced at the Motosalone of Milan, it was a direct evolution of the 14 that preceded it, but represented a great advancement in the sheer quality of the machine. It quickly became renowned for its sturdy chassis and good brakes, which lent well to all round use for racing and general commuting. At the time of its launch the Sport 15 cost 5,900 Lira (approx. 5,000 Euros). The Sport 15 proved to be an extremely popular machine remaining in production for 8 years, during which time various modifications and refinements were introduced in 1933 chromed tanks (as on this motorcycle) and carburettors were changed from Amal to Dellorto. This is an archetypal example of the model, in Italian red livery, and presented in beautifully restored condition. It has matching numbers and is FMI Certified.
