The 1927 Indian Scout Police Special 45 ci 750 cc, was a complete new up grade from the old Indian Scout, models. It was extremely popular with the police forces due it speed and larger capacity engine.
This particular 1927 Indian Scout Police Special, has recently come out of a private collection from rural Victoria.
The restoration on this Indian commenced over 20 years ago, with all engine and gearbox rebuilding work undertaken in NSW, with new piston, valves and bearings being installed.
All the tin ware was restored and painted by a motorcycle painter in Geelong , the wheels also have been rebuilt and laced up using Buchanan butted spokes and nipples from the USA.
The rear wheel is unique for the 1927 Police Special Scout as it has two brake systems, internal and external, and braking is achieved via a brake cross over shaft, which the late 101 Indian model also used. The front wheel is a slightly larger hub than the normal scout models, this was enlarged due to increase in engine capacity, from 600 to 750 cc on this model.
The vendor advises that this Indian motorcycle has all the ordinal sheet metal, front and rear guards, fuel tank and toolbox. It is in running condition as per the video clip, running on a modern carburetor, but the original and correct Schebler carburetor DLX40 has now been installed.
