A great example, presents very well and would look the part in any historic motorcycle collection.
Raleigh was a major manufacturer of bicycles in the UK. In 1919 they released a range of motorcycles which ran until the great depression forced the closure of motorcycle manufacturing. Raleigh were the manufacturer of Sturmey Archer gearboxes which were used on many other makes and ultimately were developed into the various Norton gearboxes used right up to the Commando model.
This bike is a 250 “flat tanker” manufactured in 1923 and is 101 years old. An older restoration, it is believed to be a runner and only needs transfers and a bit of leatherwork to complete.
Raleigh did well in trials with these reliable and simple models. Notably campaigned by the well known female rider, Marjorie Cottle.
Not many Raleigh’s made it to Australia and this is a fairly rare flat tanker over here.
Raleigh built motorcycles in from 1899 to 1906, and then from 1919 to 1933 in Nottingham, England. In 1924 the reliability of the brand was demonstrated by Hugh Gibson who rode a combination round the British coast.
This motorcycle is located in our facility in Melbourne, for further information please contact Dave Hosking 0474 182 002 or Mason Hibbert 0455 191 035.
To protect your investment motorcycle bidders should consider at a minimum replacement of fuel, oil, fluids, filters and thorough brake inspection as motorcycles may have been stationary for some time. Motorcycles are sold as is off the floor – unregistered. Please check photos carefully for motorcycle condition. No warranty expressed or implied, sold with all or any faults, and where applicable sold with Australian Government Import Approval. NB15
