Multiple Concours Winning bike. The British built Douglas motorcycles were manufactured in Bristol between 1907-1957. Laying claim to the earliest production flat-twin motorcycle engine Douglas was a major motorcycle supplier through the first world war producing 70,000 bikes for military use. Successful in dirt bike racing with dirt track specific models and throughout the 1920's having great success at Isle of Man TT, Grand Prix & marathon racing. This 1924 Douglas has been in the same family ownership for more than 80 years and is in beautiful condition. Fitted with a 348cc horizontally opposed flat twin engine with a 2-speed gearbox in a light weight frame with a low center of gravity these bikes were a quick ride for the era. Now at 97 years old this bike features plenty of unique features showing the way things used to be with acetylene lighting, belt drive, duck horn and leather luggage bags. A rare bike in fantastic condition this bike offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of history. Rarely offered this will make for a great investment for any collection (private or public).
